Sum Function Wins Best Documentary Feature at Broken Arrow Film Festival
Oklahoma treated us pretty well.
Sum Function headed to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, this past weekend for the inaugural Broken Arrow Film Festival and came home with Best Documentary Feature.
The festival marked another stop in what has already been an incredible run for the film this year, bringing Sum Function to a new audience and adding Oklahoma to the growing list of states where we’ve had the opportunity to share this story on the big screen.
This time, Oscar Mike Militia teammates and documentary subjects Bryan Anderson and Josh Burch were there to represent the film. They watched alongside the Broken Arrow audience and stuck around afterward for Q&A, giving viewers the chance to hear directly from two of the veterans whose lives unfold on screen.
And then they got to bring home some hardware!
Bryan and Josh accepted the Best Documentary Feature award on behalf of the entire Sum Function team.
There’s something particularly fitting about seeing two of the guys whose stories helped make this film take the stage to accept an award for it. Sum Function may follow a wheelchair rugby team, but anyone who has seen it knows the story reaches far beyond what happens on the court.
Each festival has given us the chance to watch a different audience experience the film for the first time, and we continue to be grateful for the response. To leave Oklahoma with another award makes the trip that much sweeter.
A huge thank you to the Broken Arrow Film Festival for including Sum Function in its inaugural year, to everyone who came out to watch, and especially to Bryan and Josh for holding down the fort.
Next stop: San Diego!
